Our dog treat jars are awesome! You can personalize them with your dog's PHOTO! Just send us your dog's photo and we will inlay the photo onto the wooden treat jar. AND wood burn your dog's name on the jar. The neat thing about the treat jars is that down the road when your little best friend passes away, if you decide to have him/her cremated you can use the personalized treat jar as an urn.
Our dog treat jars are hand made on a wood lathe from many different types of hardwood such as cherry, oak, red cedar, black jack oak, hickory, black walnut, sycamore, and exotic wood that we sometimes buy on Ebay.
We try to do our best to use wood that has beautiful grain patterns and spalting, because they make the nicest pieces of artwork for a jar that is possibly going to be used as an urn.
It takes us several weeks to make each one of these jars. We start with a log of wood on our wood lathe and shape them using our woodturning tools, then we need to hollow them out. Then they need to sit for awhile to make sure they are not going to warp as wood sometimes does, then we put them back on the wood lathe and reshape them and then sand them and sand them and sand them to a smooth finish. Then we use a food safe finish on the interior of them so that they are safe for the dog treats. And we put a nice finish on the exterior to make them last forever.
If you want to shine them up, all you need to do is use a wood wax on the exterior and buff them up occasionally with a cloth!
