Dog Collars & Leashes

Dog Collars – Dog Leash – Dog Harness

Choosing a dog collar or dog harness, and a dog leash for small dogs depends on the dog and the dog owner. You the owner have to decide what you want and what you feel comfortable with, and what your dog will feel comfortable with. If the small dog whips his or her neck around a lot when he or she has a dog collar on you may want to consider a dog harness instead of a dog collar because they are less likely to whip themselves around with a harness on than they are with a collar on.

It is not good for small dogs to be whipping their necks around because they do not like to have a collar on with a leash attached to it. They can easily damage their trachea or hurt their neck. You have to remember, small dogs are small and so are their bones, organs, and everything else.

If you were a dog, which would you prefer? Would you prefer to have something strangling you around your neck or would you prefer to have something more comfortable around your chest?

A harness is made with a metal ring for attaching the dog’s license, rabies, and owner’s information tags, same as a collar.

The choice is up to you, but the wiser choice is a harness for small dogs. But if you have a calm dog and or he is already trained to walk on a leash then you may want to go ahead with a collar.

The typical rule of thumb for sizing of a collar is to leave enough space between the collar and the dog’s neck to put your thumb in between. This leaves them plenty of breathing room and you will be sure that the collar will not slip off your dog’s head should your dog decide to bolt after another dog or cat while you are out on a walk with him or her.
